Research Description: This research seeks to highlight the important role of previously underrecognized Latin- identifying musicians in jazz history. From Puerto Rican musicians in dance bands in the 1910s through the Latin-identifying musicians of the modern jazz era, this research advances Latin musicians and the formative role they played throughout jazz history.
