Research Description: A large collection of jazz solo transcriptions from middle, high school, and college level jazz improvisers was created to map vocabulary development. Potential uses include identifying common licks at different levels and how early vocabulary differs depending on the instrument. Comparison to spoken language acquisition reveal similar cognitive processes.
